weddings at NYIT DeSeversky MansionI loved this wedding. de Seversky Mansion Weddings are incredibly picturesque. I’d say that’s pretty important when shooting wedding photos at de Seversky Mansion. De Seversky Mansion is on Long Island on the campus of New York Institute of Technology. My amazing couple for the wedding at de Seversky Mansion happened to be photographers. With their genuine nature, and wonderful chemistry, they wanted me to keep it real. On a wedding day, it's easy to say, but hard to do. When you consider that a wedding is a staged event, it's truly difficult to produce real moments from elements of the wedding day that are... well.... staged. Lets take the portraits of the bridal party, for example. Many of my brides want "fun" pictures of the bridal party. In all honesty, I'm just not the photographer who tries to make my clients- who I think they are supposed to be. I'd prefer it if they were just themselves. How am I supposed to tell them what's fun???? I will NOT say, "ok everyone, 1, 2, 3, JUMP!!" That's not in my vocabulary. However, there's nothing wrong with simply putting them in some beautiful light and letting things unfold naturally. This image was shot at De Seversky mansion on Long Island's NYIT campus.I stayed true to my style of using gorgeous, harsh light, and I simply told them to just talk to one another. I allowed them the space, and a few moments to just interact with one another. This image was all thanks to them, and thanks to the sun. I simply placed them in the best compositional scenario and allowed them to be themselves. It doesn't hurt that the bride is incredibly expressive, beautiful, and exudes pure joy on her wedding day! Of course, I did the compulsory shots of everyone staring at the camera, but there's so much more that we can do to provide a more creative touch. For the geeks out there, Nikon D4, Nikkor 70-200 VRIIG, ISO 160, 1/400th @ F4.
