Keep it real. On a wedding day, it\u2019s easy to say, but hard to do. When you consider that a wedding is a staged event, it\u2019s truly difficult to produce real moments from elements of the wedding day that are\u2026 well\u2026. staged. Lets take the portraits of the bridal party, for example. Many of my brides want \u201cfun\u201d pictures of the bridal party. In all honesty, I\u2019m just not the photographer who tries to make my clients- who I think they are supposed to be. I\u2019d prefer it if they were just themselves. How am I supposed to tell them what\u2019s fun???? I will NOT say, \u201cok everyone, 1, 2, 3, JUMP!!\u201d That\u2019s not in my vocabulary. However, there\u2019s nothing wrong with simply putting them in some beautiful light and letting things unfold naturally. <\/p>\n

This image was shot at De Seversky mansion on Long Island\u2019s NYIT campus<\/a>.I stayed true to my style of using gorgeous, harsh light, and I simply told them to just talk to one another. I allowed them the space, and a few moments to just interact with one another. This image was all thanks to them, and thanks to the sun. I simply placed them in the best compositional scenario and allowed them to be themselves. It doesn\u2019t hurt that the bride is incredibly expressive, beautiful, and exudes pure joy on her wedding day! Of course, I did the compulsory shots of everyone staring at the camera, but there\u2019s so much more that we can do to provide a more creative touch.<\/p>\n
