I had some wonderful Mexican clients who flew me down to Oaxaca, Oaxaca Mexico, to capture their wedding weekend. Oaxaca is a fantastic cityI loved so much about this wedding. The light was spectacular in Oaxaca, and the compositional scenarios for the destination wedding were limitless. The city of Oaxaca is breathtaking, and shooting wedding photos in Oaxaca was a phenomenal treat. It was also a very special trip since I was able to take my beautiful wife Susan with me. The couple we had the honor of working with was one of the warmest, most genuine ever. Their beauty was obvious, but their love for one another was a blessing for me to capture. Their families and friends who traveled to this fantastic destination wedding in Oaxaca Mexico also had a blast. The ceremony was held in a magnificent cathedral that was hundreds of years old. The reception at this Oaxaca wedding was one of the most unique locations I’ve ever been able to shoot in. This image was taken moments before their reception began at Jardin Etnobotanico. It was a gorgeous venue with interesting species of trees, plants, cacti, and other strange stuff. This patterned array of plant life was lit with some landscape lighting was begging to be used for a portrait environment. The lovely and talented Susan Stripling kindly held an off camera Nikon SB-900 snooted with a Rougue Flashbender. I triggered the light with the Pocketwizard TT1 and the AC3 variable controller while Susan held the speedlight with the Flex TT5. Nothing fancy here. Just a neat, graphic image of this couple in a cool environment achieved by balancing the light.
