Many of the weddings I shoot are Philadelphia weddings. My brides and grooms love it when I can capture them with the Philadelphia city views. The Loews Philadelphia Hotel in Philadelphia Pennsylvania is actually the former PSFS building. It overlooks the city with breathtaking views of the Philadelphia Skyline. Here, in this photo, we’re able to juxtapose the bride and groom with the Liberty Place towers, an iconic view from the 33rd floor of the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. The wedding ceremony was held in the Millennium ballroom. I shot this photograph shortly after the wedding ceremony on the 33rd floor of the Loews, just as the sun was setting. It was important to make sure that the composition of this image was just right. I needed to put the couple’s profile up against the brighter parts of the frame in order for it to be a true silhouette. I also needed to stay very low to the ground while shooting, and I kept my distance from the subjects so I could use a long lens to compress the image to use the background in the best way possible. This image is often used to promote Loews Philadelphia Hotel weddings for the venue since it’s such a cool view. I really love this venue. It has some beautiful guest rooms, and it’s home to the fastest damn elevators of any hotel I’ve ever seen. I also like it because it’s really close the the Reading Terminal Market which has some of the best food imaginable.
