I’ve had the pleasure of shooting many, many weddings at the Crystal Tea Room over the years. It’s truly one of my favorite places to shoot. There are so many photographic opportunities that surround the venue, located in the historic John Wanamaker Building adjacent to Philadelphia’s City Hall. The room itself was modeled after the tea room of Robert Morris, one of the financiers of the American Revolution. Mr. Wanamaker used to have his office on the eighth floor, one floor below the Crystal Tea Room. His personal items have been given to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. ..While the Crystal Tea Room can hold a large number of people, it’s also great for a typical wedding of 150-200 or so. Catered by Finley Catering, Crystal Tea Room weddings have a fabulous, old world, Philadelphia vibe. For me, personally, it’s a great venue because of how simple it is to work there. There is plenty of space for me to store my gear, I never feel too crowded, and the staff of Finley Catering is fantastic to work with. The columns are hand carved, and have beautiful uplighting to enhance the ambience. The crystal chandeliers provide a grandeur, and the gorgeous, high ceilings are spectacular. ..This image, taken at a recent wedding at the Crystal Tea Room was shot during Melissa and Kyle’s first dance during their wedding reception. It was taken with my Nikon D5 camera, a Nikkor 24-120mm F4.0 lens, and the settings were 1/60th F4.5 @ ISO 1600 and I fired an SB900 flash that my assistant was holding off camera.
