Bonnet Island Estate Weddings

This image really hits home for me. It was taken at a wedding at Bonnet Island Estate. It was a very emotional moment, and incredibly genuine, as the bride and her father had a very close relationship. Bonnet Island Estate has a fantastic bridal suite with beautiful window light that pours in, and a great view that overlooks the sound. Shortly before the ceremony, which is held in a quaint little barn that is used as a chapel at Bonnet Island Estate, the bride’s father spent a few moments alone before he was to walk her down the aisle. I will probably be just as emotional when my own daughters get married someday.

Long Beach Island Weddings are spectacular. We were able to make some fantastic portraits right on the grounds of Bonnet Island right after the wedding ceremony, and we used the spectacular light to our advantage. When this image was taken, it was taken with my Nikon D3S and my Nikkor 24-70 F2.8 lens. One of the most important parts of my job is to anticipate and react to moments. It’s these moments that bring me back to my roots as a photojournalist. Wedding photojournalism, for the most part, is a bit of a buzzword. Many people think it’s just the same thing as "candid" wedding photography. To me, wedding photojournalism is a bit different than hard core journalism, because there are times I might "set the stage" for the moments to take place, without staging the moment. However, this image is purely organic. I had nothing to do with the placement of the bride and her date inside the bridal suite at Bonnet Island Estate. It was quite real.
