The ketubah is the Jewish marriage contract, similar in some ways to a marriage license, but is much more nuanced. First being that its design is specifically tailored to each couple and outlines the roles and responsibilities that each individual is expected to provide during the marriage. As in this image, it is signed by both partners, their rabbi and witnesses to the occasion. Close family are present and the signing always takes place preceding the wedding ceremony.
